Saying Goodbye When You Couldn’t Be There

If your pet passed suddenly, at the vet or while you were away, it is not too late. Saying goodbye to your pet is still possible.

“It is not too late to say the words that were left unsaid.”

Not every goodbye happens the way we imagine, and saying goodbye to your pet can feel impossible when you were not there. Sometimes a pet passes suddenly at home, overnight at the vet, during surgery, or while you are away. Many families tell us that not being there is the hardest part of all.

If this is where you find yourself, please know that it is not too late to say goodbye. A private pet viewing in Townsville can give you that moment back, gently and in your own time.

When Goodbyes Are Missed

These are some of the moments families share with us. If one of them is yours, you are not alone, and saying goodbye to your pet is still possible.

01

A sudden passing at home

Some pets slip away quietly overnight or while the family is out, with no warning at all.

02

Overnight at the vet

When a pet is in hospital, the call can come in the early hours, before anyone can get there.

03

During surgery or emergency care

Sometimes a pet does not wake from an operation, or passes while the vet team is doing everything they can.

04

Away from home

Travel, work or a hospital stay of your own can mean you are simply not there when it happens.

05

Family living elsewhere

Adult children and relatives who live interstate often feel they never got to say goodbye.

06

Children at school

Kids can be at school or asleep, and parents may wonder how to help them farewell a pet they loved.

It Is Not Too Late

A private viewing gives you the chance to see your pet again, peaceful and cared for. It means saying goodbye to your pet in your own time, before their aquacremation.

  • Your pet is gently prepared and rests on a soft, raised bed
  • The Angel Area is softly lit, with candles, flowers and glowing angel wings
  • The room is yours alone for 30 or 45 minutes
  • Up to four family members can be there together

For many families, this quiet time becomes the goodbye they thought they had lost.

Saying Goodbye to Your Pet, Your Way

There is no right way to spend this time. Some ideas families have found meaningful:

  • Write a letter and read it aloud, or leave it beside them
  • Bring their favourite blanket, toy or treat
  • Play a song that reminds you of them
  • Share favourite memories together as a family
  • Take a photo in front of the angel wings to remember the moment

You are also welcome to include your own cultural, spiritual or personal rituals.

Gentle Answers to Common Questions

My pet passed at the vet. Can I still see them?

Yes. With your permission, your pet can be transferred from your vet clinic into our care. We then prepare The Angel Area so your family can visit at a time that suits you.

I feel guilty that I wasn’t there. Is that normal?

Yes, it is one of the most common feelings families share with us. Guilt is often a reflection of how deeply you loved your pet. Your pet felt your love in thousands of everyday moments, not only at the very end. You can also read more about pet loss and grief.

How soon should we arrange a viewing?

Where possible, we recommend arranging your pet’s viewing for the day after they have passed, or as close to this time as possible. This allows us to care for and present your pet in the most natural and peaceful way we can.

If a viewing is delayed for several days after your pet has passed, they may need to be kept at freezing temperatures for preservation. Once frozen, the body becomes firm, which may affect how natural your pet appears during the viewing.

We understand that every family’s circumstances are different, particularly when loved ones need time to travel. Our recommendation is simply intended to help families have the gentlest possible viewing experience. If a next-day viewing is not possible, please speak with us and we will work with you to find the most suitable arrangement for your family.

Can children come to the viewing?

Children are welcome if the family feels it is right for them. A calm, gentle setting can help children understand what has happened and say goodbye in their own way.

How much does a private viewing cost?

A 30 minute viewing is $150 and a 45 minute viewing is $180. Both include the photo tribute space, raised bed setup, the angel wing photo backdrop, exclusive access to The Angel Area, comfort items and a keepsake token.

What happens after the viewing?

After your farewell, your pet is cared for gently through their aquacremation, and their ashes are lovingly returned to you.
